To my husband:
Today I just want to reminisce on some of the fine things I know about you. I well remember when you first came into my life. I had gone with many different fellows but I think that perhaps I had never thought to serious of getting married. Although I had made up my mind if and when I did marry I wanted to marry a fellow who was LDS and one that was LDS because he believes it was right, not one I had to convert. So when you came along a missionary who was filled with the importance of his mission, well I was satisfied. Then I remember the nice little things you used to do and then you came back to Idaho and I again went out with different fellows, but I remember when you called at Christmas from Salt Lake I believe the calm strength in your voice seemed to settle any doubts I had in my mind and I felt like I could trust my life with you.
We have had our ups and downs but I have always felt you were a strength for the right. I loved you for the way you loved the children each one as they came along as tired as you might feel as you came in from the field. You were never too tired but you could and would hold or tend to the baby or the next to the baby while I finished the meal. I still admire that trait in you as I see Shella or Ramona's little ones go to you. They trust you too.
I admire you for your honesty, in meeting obligations, your willingness to accept your responsibility in paying church dues, tithing and what is asked of you. Your willingness even though it meant sacrifice to send our children on missions and help them as best we could to get an education both in music and school. We also taught them how to work they maybe haven't appreciated to some of these things but I know that back of it all, all the time you were thinking of building character and I am sure as the years pass and their family grows they will appreciate you more and more.
I have loved you for the strength you have been to me in different offices I have held in the Church. You never put anything in the way of me doing the thing that was required of me. How you and Brother Beck would back us up in our Relief Society Bazoar's [gram said a "bazoar" was a sale of some sort to make money for church buildings or church programs] putting the fever in others to participate.
So I could go on and on but I guess I will just say "I love you because you are you" and hope our Heavenly Father will bless you with health to enjoy life for many years yet.
Your loving but not overly affectionate wife.
Effie.

why is the best always saved for last?
Will the best always be saved for last? It seems like everything kinda follows this unspoken rule about life. Just think back to being a child and hearing your parents tell you that you can't have dessert until you've finished everything. I mean, I hear all the time from lots of grown ups that marriage gets better after every year (its mama&poppa watts anniversary). And eternal life is suppose to be the best and its saved for last. I can seriously keep going with these examples. In my case, my favorite memories from EFY would always be from the last couple of days-right when we are about to leave. Which leads me to this blog. Life has really been amazing. I love my freshman year, my ward, and my friends that I have made. I have done so much the last few weeks with friends! Besides being a psycho-study-aholic most of the time, here are a few pictures from one amazing night after our Saturday night Session of Stake Conference:
Spending time with my favorite cousin(and roommate!). :)
watching a movie outside with friends.

Going to Denny's after the Saturday Night session of stake conference with some of my best friends. Where we connected a bunch of straws and had fun with a ginormous communal straw:)no worries mom-none of us had mono...

Ye, my meal was great!! And while I was gone with Bales picking up Mike from work, my wonderful friends decided to put Tabasco sauce ALL over my sandwhich. Fortunately, I didn't notice and ate the whole thing.

Haha...so we had a syrup shot contest with the boys that got pancakes!! Oh how I love Mormons.
At Denny's there is an all-you-can-eat pancake meal. The record before we got to Denny's was only 6 HUGE pankcakes. Some boys decided to take the challenge and beat the record. We were all so proud of them! :) So was the manager, who was very nice and visited our table often to talk:)

frantic finals
Oh goodness!!!! Its finals time again. And I cannn reeeallllyy feeellll itttt wwweeearringgg onnnn meeee. Yesterday I spent 13 hours on campus and today 12 hours. Can you go brain dead?? I wonder if I will. Sometimes I really do think its a shame I actually care as much I do when I consider what type of a memory I've been blessed with. You know, I'm extremely grateful for time. That atleast something is constantly moving (you know-with hours, minutes, and seconds). Can you imagine truly being stuck in time when you feel stressed, sick, or bored? Life would really suck. It gives me a lot of hope knowing that time moves on. That I'm always one second closer to being done, or one second closer to becoming who I want to be, where I want to be, and who I want to be with. Ok well, I have a lot to blog about....i guess im one blog closer to finishing off all the cool stuff I want to remember.
2 FINALS DOWN, 3 (HARD) FINALS LEFT
I love my bed. And bedtime.

My Prayer List
I always have a mental prayer list. When times get desperate, it gets upgraded to my planner/white board/or amazing ipod touch. :)I am always shocked at how often I lose my water bottle, keys, ID card (which is my everything: meal card, library card, card needed to take any test at BYU, etc). Most of the time its for items such as these. Sometimes it includes certain people or situations I have to experience. And then there are the things that I don't think will ever be removed from my prayer list...and of course, things that I try to remember that I am most grateful for in life.
Recently, I lost my chemistry book. I'm happy to say that I found it today after going to FHE!! I really have prayed for that textbook for like 2 weeks. Now I can finish studying for my last final with it and sell it back to get some needed money! Thank goodness God hears and answers my prayers. :)

Subject: ich liebe dich
Dear Elder,
i accidentally sent that email w/out finishing it. as you can tell, i finally got a Gmail account this morning before i leave for Washington. I leave on Sunday, so i decided to write you now (Saturday night) in case i don't get to write tomorrow at the Watts. I'm busy trying to pack and get everything ready for WA. and I'm somewhat nervous. i don't know if it's just that I'm going to be gone for 5 weeks or if it's just that I'm just nervous that i might miss my flight again. so when you write to me, you might want to send it too this email that would be great, it's real easy --- beckyrhoden@gmail.com. on Monday, July 2, i start EFY, there is a possibility that Carli might be my counselor. I doubt it but it would be funny if she was. I'm not sure if I'm going to play All of Me for the Variaty Show. I don't know if i have it perfected as i want it, to sounding absolute perfect, i can play it, but it's about 75% memorized. but i really do want to play it, just not to embarrass me though.
this week was really busy, we had Annie (my shadow) for the first 3 days. i didn't mind too much. it just made me practice some patience sometime. she's growing really fast and is only about a head under me. She's also really dramatic, so when we watched movies, she would always make huge gulping noises and wipe her eyes and would begin to cry. it was cute. we went swimming and i had a good time with Oma. she even went swimming. we had too hold her down on the pool steps b/c she would begin to float away. when she was talking to me later she told me that she was proud of me and thought that i was a beautiful christian girl. i guess she thinks that I'm christian, or that i live a christian life. which is very good. the other days of the week, me and mom sewed clothes for trek, read, swam, babysat a lot, played the piano, and i did some service for the YW at the church building.
I'm sure mom and dad will tell you all about our water heater leaking and the mold in the garage. we were talking about all of the trials that we had the other day withe dad's truck breaking down twice w/in the same month, this, and our air conditioner always seems not to work very often, when mom made the comment that you must be a very good missionary. i thought it was funny, but i guess it was true. you must be a good missionary if the adversary is having to come up with a lot of opposition for mom and dad.
Mathew and Zach both called and talked for a while. Jim and i are probably going to meet Mathew and his mom when I'm out their w/ Jim, and I'm going to be spending some time w/ Zach every now and then. dad and i have been talking more often. he took me out to get a t-shirt at Bass Pro-Shops and then we were going "over the guns". he's so funny and passionate about some things. i decided watching them at dinner tonight how lucky i am to be the child to get mom and dad to myself for 4 years. Jim only had them for 2! they're turning into really funny old people.
i also got my haircut, and for the fist time got some blond highlights. don't worry, it was on an impulse and i was so scared that i wouldn't like it because i never have the nerve to do anything. but sis. whitney did a really good job. they look really really natural. just hte way i told her over and over again. all it did was brought a little bit of the blond that i have in the front (from the sun) to more places. nobody notices it really, i had mom take a picture, but you really couldn't tell anything was different so i guess it doesn't matter.
Kevin White reports to the MTC on July 18th, and I'm going to be there for his farewell on the 15th. anything you want me to tell him??? oh, and Emily told me that she saw Bryce Betteridge holding Alison Birds hand. i wonder what Jordon would think??? you should probably inform kory too, that you and Alison won't be together if the betteridge boys keep attacking her, who knows, maybe Anthony will be next.....
i love you. you are such an example to me. i love your emails. i hope all goes well, I'll write you later..
w/ much much love,
Becky

Mom sent some pictures and I couldn't help but think how pretty you are. I love the highlights also.
Kory is going to be jealous when he sees you at BYU in two years so watch out. I still want to do the best friends- and their little sisters dating activity then (you and kory, ryan and eric scott's lil. sister, Eric S. and Natalie, jordan b. and someone, and me with ). But you can't mention it to anyone. It is a secret. haha. I think it would be hilarious tho.
I hope you have a wonderful time in washington. I'm glad you began a gmail account. What was your final decsion on facebook?
I'm sure Anne had a wonderful with you. How old is she now?
I've also heard about that christian film. It sounded quite good.
Make sure to send greetings to matthew and zach from me.
I know mom and dad are really going to miss you! Remember to call home and talk with them.
Have a wonderful 4th of July. I'm going to have to write Jordan and tell him to watch out for Bryce. Luckily, Jorday will be home from his mission two years before then. Has anyone been married you've heard of. You'll have to catch me up on the news from my friends my age and whats new at CHS.
Love,
Your brother!

DISCLAIMER
I've been a little blog happy. But I've realized what a great way it is to record down the things that I KNOW I WILL forget. Not only now, but the things of my past as well. Especially high school. For my first two years, I didn't really keep up in my journal and I definitely didn't have a facebook. But for the last two years I wrote my brother weekly on his mission. These emails are a bit of my life. I cherish them. I'll start posting them from time to time. I know A LOT of my friends think I'm psycho because of my relationship with my brothers. Just take it at face-value that it is abnormal and that I like it that way!
P.S. I loved our subject lines, so you'll be seein them too. I think I always tried making my subject lines more thrilling than the rest of my family.

The Lord can't draw water from a dry well.
I disagree. Within two days I had two professors say this and make comments about it. Their comments disagree with each other.
I believe the Lord can do anything. He can dig deeper. He can make it rain. He can make a new well. I think if I didn't study for an exam and walked into the testing center and said a prayer that I could possibly pass. I wouldn't put money on it and wouldn't do it. But I believe anything is possible if it's the Lord's will.
